Please remember that VPK hours are 8:30-11:30.

Book orders are due Tuesday, Feb. 1st. Please make checks or money orders payable to Scholastic.

Valentine's Day is Monday, Feb 14th. We will celebrate at school. If you would like to bring something for the party other than candy, please discuss with one of the staff members so we know what you are planning. We will have a card exchange, so please bring in enough cards for all students. We have 17 students in our class. It will be great practice for the students to practice signing their names on the cards. Please do not label envelopes. The card exchange is much more efficient if there are no names on the envelopes. We will also have pizza for lunch. $2.oo donations will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

VPK Newsletter - Week of January 10, 2011

VPK Classroom News

This Week:

We're are finishing up our circus theme. Today we started making circus tents at the art table.

Our letter of the week is Pp. Today we read our P Book of Words and then drew pictures of things that began with the letter P. Tomorrow we'll practice writing P.

Our number focus is on 11 and 12. Our color this month is white. Our shape is the rhombus.

Looking Ahead:

Next week the center is closed on Monday, January 17 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There will be no VPK on Monday or Tuesday. VPK follows Collier County's schedule and they are out both days.

Our New Behavior System:

So far, so good! All of the children have been responding in a positive way to the new bear chart. It gives them a great visual reminder of how they are doing and they've all been eager to keep their bears on green! Please check the bear board when you pick your child up to see how he/she did in VPK that morning.

VPK Discipline Plan

We have developed a classroom discipline plan to afford every student guidance in making good decisions about their behavior, and thus an opportunity to learn in a positive classroom environment. Your child deserves the most positive classroom environment possible for his/her growth, and we know that together we will make a difference.

Class Rules

1. Follow Directions.

2. Be kind and respectful.

3. Raise your hand to ask or answer.

4. Speak in a quiet voice.

5. Keep hands, feet, and all objects to yourself.

Children will have the opportunity to move their bear as their behavior changes throughout the day. Their bear will start on yellow each day.

Green – Great day!

Yellow – Satisfactory

Red – Disruptive/unacceptable behavior

You can check to see how your child is doing by checking the behavior chart each day at pick-up.

VPK Newsletter - Week of January 4, 2011

Classroom News

Happy New Year! Welcome to a new year and a new format for our newsletter. In an effort to reduce paper waste we are going to try posting the newsletter here each week for parents.

This Week:
Our letter of the week is Oo
Our number focus will be on 11 and 12
Our color this month is white
Our shape is the rhombus (diamond)
Our theme is "Under the Big Top" - we'll have fun turning the classroom into a circus!

Literacy Buddies:
Our buddies have started sending us books and letters! As your child receives his/her book we will send them home. Each child will write a thank you note to his buddy in class and I'll mail it off to them. We're excited to be a part of this fun and educational program!

Change of clothing:
Please make sure that your child has a full change of clothing at school every day. Each child in the VPK class has his/her own cubby to store the items (along with napping items and backpacks).
