What is this crumpled up paper that I found in my child's folder???
If you checked your VPK folder today, I'm sure you noticed that one of the papers was very crumpled! This morning we read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. It is the story of a little girl who loves her name until she goes to school and gets made fun of. It's a wonderful story to lead into a discussion of helpful vs. hurtful words. After we read the story and talked about it, the children colored a picture of Chrysanthemum. Then we asked them to crumple the paper up each time someone hurt Chrysanthemum's feelings. When Chrysanthemum went home and her parents made her feel better, we smoothed our papers out again.

Peter and the Wolf
Ms. Pat has introduced the music class to Peter and the Wolf. We've listened to the story, listened to the music, watched a video of a production of it, and talked about the different instruments that we can hear in it. Today we put on our own puppet show version with puppets and sets made by the children. What a great learning experience! Thank you, Ms. Pat!
VPK Newsletter Week of May 2nd
This week we will continue to discuss why we love our mothers. We are looking forward to Muffins with Mom on Thursday morning (VPK). We continue to review alphabet and work one on one with students learning letter identification, letters sounds, initial sounds, and even sight words.
Looking Back: Last week we worked on special projects for our mothers. We also practiced our songs for graduation on June 3rd. In music we created puppets for Peter and the Wolf. We had a great week!
