VPK Newsletter - Week of April 18th

Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Bunny is going to hide easter eggs for the students on Thursday. Please bring in a dozen plastic eggs filled with treats. You can fill eggs with stickers, toys, or candy (no chocolate because it will probably melt). Also, please bring in a basket for your child to fill with the eggs.

Also remember no school on Friday, the 22th.

Looking Back

The boys and girls had a great time playing with all of our new toys. Brandi bought new dress up clothes, dolls, action figures, a making pizza toy, and alphabet blocks. We reviewed the alphabet by using blocks, an ABC pocket chart, and reading ABC books.

Ms. Kathy worked hard and put together the ABC books the children have been working on all year. Please read over and use as a resource while reviewing the alphabet at home

Looking Ahead

We will continue reviewing alphabet in both large and small groups. We will also talk about Easter and read some fun Easter stories.

VPK Dress Up Fun

Toddler Play is A Lot of Work!

Feeding and caring for the baby dolls . . . pretending to cook in the kitchen . . . making a line of cars . . . and building a block tower. It may look like we're just playing but we are learning about cause and effect, improving our language skills, gaining an understanding of measurement, and learning to socialize!

VPK Newsletter - Week of April 11

It's hard to believe, but we are entering the final semester of VPK. There will be a few changes in our curriculum as we try to make certain that the children are ready to go off to kindergarten.

Instead of focusing on just one letter each week, we will have a review of the entire alphabet. We will concentrate on not only letter recognition but also beginning sounds. We'll also introduce writing the lowercase forms of letters. Our "Show and Tell" will change as well. Each week we will send a lunch sized bag home with four children. The bags will have a letter on them. Please help your child find something that begins with the letter on the bag to bring in on Friday. We'll try to guess what's in the bag! This week the "Show and Tell" bags will be going home with Mason, Trent, Melissa, and Matthew.

We're also adding a "Morning Letter" to our circle time. This is a letter written on chart paper that allows children to learn more about print. We'll do things like count words, find and circle special letters or words, find periods and question marks, and recognize how print moves from left to right.

In math, we will review shapes (including several 3D shapes) and numbers 1-20. Using manipulatives, we'll continue to work on simple addition and subtraction. Patterning and the calendar will also remain part of our circle time.

We're looking forward to all of the fun that is to come in the following weeks. As always,
thank you for your support.

Jake is Home!!!

We're so happy to report that Jake is now continuing his recovery at home. Today, Jake and his parents stopped by the school to say "hello" on their way to a doctor visit. Thank you to everyone who contributed to Jake's basket and signed his card - we gave him the gifts and everyone's wishes for his speedy recovery. We love you, Jake!

We Love Ms. Suzi's home cooking :)

Ms. Suzi loves keeping us well fed with her healthy home-cooked lunches. Our menu includes chicken and rice, macaroni and cheese, beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, applesauce, grilled cheese, and lots of other yummy fare.
