A toy medical kit, a few dolls, and some hospital dress-up attire have turned our housekeeping center into a medical center this week. There won't be a sick doll in sight!
If you checked your VPK folder today, I'm sure you noticed that one of the papers was very crumpled! This morning we read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. It is the story of a little girl who loves her name until she goes to school and gets made fun of. It's a wonderful story to lead into a discussion of helpful vs. hurtful words. After we read the story and talked about it, the children colored a picture of Chrysanthemum. Then we asked them to crumple the paper up each time someone hurt Chrysanthemum's feelings. When Chrysanthemum went home and her parents made her feel better, we smoothed our papers out again.
Today the VPK class got the chance to breakfast with their moms! While enjoying muffins and juice, the children presented their moms with painted portraits, cards, and candles.
